Latitude Zero Excursion

Dave Your Lucky Find

A bit of a hidden gem within the cigar industry, Latitude Zero is crafted in Nicaragua by the world’s most premier tobacco growers and broke out onto the scene last year with an exquisite blend featuring a top-grade Habano Ecuador wrapper. This time around they turn their focus to a maduro leaf and simply nailed it out of the park. Dressed in a dark and toothy US Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper and packaged up in handmade leather pouches, this cigar is quite a looker. But it’s the flavor that truly wows you. This medium to full-bodied cigar offers up hearty notes of chocolate and coffee right off the bat. Followed up by undertones of earth, leather, and some pepper, this cigar is incredibly rich yet always smooth.

This is Rocky Patel's aptly dubbed Cri-ojo, a unique hybrid wrapper leaf featuring a mix of both Criollo and Corojo seed offering a one-of-a-kind experience. I never thought such a balanced, medium-bodied cigar could pack so much flavor from an earthy spice up front to a touch of natural sweetness on the finish.

This Oliva everyday premium delivers each and every time. Reliable and unbeatable for the price, the impeccable construction is evident as soon as you pick it up. A gorgeous, Ecuadorian Habano wrapper is perfectly applied around a robust blend of Nicaraguan fillers creating a smooth character mixed with zesty notes of cedar and spice.

Grab yourself a Guinness or an Irish coffee for this one. Erin Go Bragh is an exceptional choice for aficionados looking for a well-made, flavored premium. The infusion of Irish whiskey melds perfectly with the Dominican fillers and a silky smooth Connecticut wrapper, finished with a lightly-sweetened cap.

Dave | | Chock-full of flavor...

Rocky Patel is back with an exciting new release in the form of a hearty maduro featuring a San Andres wrapper and a carefully selected blend of Nicaraguan long fillers. Despite its bold packaging, this one has a rather tamed and refined character. To me, that’s a good thing. Right off the bat, this well-balanced cigar is incredibly smooth with rich notes of coffee and chocolate. To be honest, I was expecting a bold spice that is typical with San Andres wrappers. Instead there were just light hints of cedar, spice, and sweetness on the finish which added a nice bit of complexity to the blend. Neither flavor would completely overpower the others. I can really respect such a full-flavored cigar that doesn’t knock you back in your seat in terms of strength. Flor de San Andres remains firmly in the medium-bodied camp throughout and can be enjoyed any time of day. If you’re looking for a new everyday maduro you can’t go wrong here.

This classic has introduced so many to Brazilian tobacco, including myself. A top-seller within CAO’s illustrious ‘world cigar’ lineup, CAO Brazilia is a bold, full-bodied blend featuring a dark and lustrous wrapper and perfectly aged Nicaragua fillers. Rich notes of chocolate and spice are pleasant with a slight sweetness on the finish that marry together perfectly throughout.

This Dominican blend is a classic and one of the world’s best-selling cigars. If you thought mellow-bodied cigars weren’t your thing, there’s a good chance Macanudo Café will prove you wrong. It’s one of the most consistent cigars ever made and delivers an ultra-smooth experience from start to finish. Perfect for any occasion, Macanudo Café offers creamy notes of almonds, cedar, and vanilla.

Dave | | An Intriguing Collaboration

Developed by the Cuban cigar maker, AJ Fernandez, who has produced some of the finest cigars in Nicaragua, Hoyo La Amistad is a bold move for the legendary Hoyo de Monterrey brand. I have to admit, when I first heard that AJ Fernandez was teaming up with Hoyo for a release, it had me scratching my head, but at the same time I couldn’t wait to light one up. After hearing that AJ Fernandez and his family grew up very near to the Hoyo de Monterrey farm in Cuba I knew he had put his all in this one.

The cigar features perfect construction. Once lit, you know you’re in for a bold and full-bodied treat. While the cigar is strong, it is nowhere near overpowering and there are some nice sweet and spicy notes mixed in that help to balance out the palate. While I didn’t find the blend to be overly complex or change much throughout, Hoyo La Amistad certainly lives up to its historic branding and delivers a classic, Cuban-esque experience that even the most discerning aficionados can enjoy.

Featuring an oily, Sun Grown Ligero wrapper, purposely under-fermented to create a unique flavor, the latest from Ramón Bueso will instantly grab your attention. It begins with a blast of pepper. As it settles down, notes of chocolate and spice appear with slight hints of raisin. This medium to full-bodied cigar has an aroma that sets it apart from any other cigar I’ve had.

When it comes to name recognition, few trump Montecristo, and this smooth blend has been living up to the hype since its grand debut in 1995. While it’s on the mellower side of the spectrum, there is still plenty of flavor and complexity to go around. Rich notes of cedar and spice lead the pack while a select Connecticut Shade wrapper provides a creamy finish.

Dave | | Camacho Powerband
After enjoying Camacho American Barrel-Aged, I was very eager to try this latest release within the Master Build Series. In typical Camacho fashion, Powerband caters to their core base of full-bodied fanatics. What sets this one apart though is a propriety bunching process which helps to maximize airflow without sacrificing the amount of tobaccos used. The very smooth and easy draw once lit was just the beginning of the excitement. A rich, complex flavor profile of dark roasted coffee, leather, and a slight spice combine to create a full-bodied cigar with all the strength and power you could ever want while remaining incredibly smooth draw after draw. The burn and construction is also top-notch from head to foot. Camacho Powerband is the perfect cigar for those who are looking for a full-bodied experience without any harsh or bitter qualities.

Ramon Bueso has worked behind the scenes on blends with industry legends such as Estelo Padron and Frank Llaneza. Today he is reaching stardom with his own line of premium cigars, and his fourth installment is by far the most unique offering within his portfolio. Morado is the highest-rated La Perla Habana blend, and rightfully so. The toothy African Cameroon wrapper is rolled to perfection around a solid core of Nicaraguan long-fillers. This well-balanced, medium-bodied blend has a ton of flavor without all the kick. Smooth flavors of cedar, earth, and light spices mingle throughout, followed by a semi-sweet finish.

Dave | | The Future Cigar Landscape
Unveiled as a pre-release at the 2015 IPCPR Trade Show, Alec Bradley Post Embargo pays homage to cigar history in the aftermath of the Cuban embargo and symbolizes a future landscape where Cuban and non-Cuban brands can compete on a level playing field. A dark brown Corojo wrapper grown in Honduras is seamlessly applied and gently box pressed to perfection around a core of Nicaraguan and Honduran long-fillers. Once lit, you’re palate overwhelmed with a complex flavor profile dominated by pepper and rounded out with slight hints of mocha and caramel on the finish. The burn line was nice and thin and the ash was compact, holding form for the entire first third of the cigar. The strength clocked out at medium to full-bodied. Alec Bradley Post Embargo truly encapsulates that Cuban-esque style of clean and balanced yet rich in flavor.

A personal favorite from PDR Cigars, AFR-75 is one of the smoothest and most well-balanced, full-bodied cigars on the market. A blend of Criollo ’98, Connecticut Broadleaf, and Dominican tobaccos are combined with a dark and oily maduro wrapper, creating a rich and creamy flavor profile accentuated by hints of spice and sweetness.

I’ve always been a fan of The Griffin’s. When you’re in the mood for a reliable morning or mid-day mellow cigar, they never let you down. So when I heard that Davidoff was releasing The Griffin’s Nicaragua, I knew I had to try one. True to Nicaraguan form, it is a complete departure from the original Connecticut offering. In fact, the only thing they have in common was the superior construction. The Griffin’s Nicaraguan packs quite a punch right from the start, especially the Short Torpedo size. Wasting no time, you are immediately hit with a bold spice up front along with notes of chocolate, leather, and cedar in the background. I did detect a slight bitterness on the tongue on the finish towards the end of the cigar but nothing that made the cigar any less enjoyable. This is a well-blended, medium to full-bodied cigar that brings The Griffin’s brand into a whole new realm for fans of full-bodied, Nicaraguan tobacco. And despite all its boldness, a hint of that signature Dominican tobacco in the filler still lingers.

Dave | | Morning Star gets a maduro makeover
This stout, 5.0”x58, figurado offers up a unique experience. You may have had a chance to visit this limited edition size dubbed ‘Morning Star' when it was released under the original Ave Maria line featuring an Ecuador Habano wrapper. Argentum, on the other hand, is topped with a thick and flavorful Connecticut Broadleaf maduro wrapper which boosts the strength up a notch, offering ample notes of spice, pepper, and leather. I found this cigar to be medium to full- bodied while still retaining that signature smoothness the Ave Maria brand is so well known for. If you love the original Ave Maria line but looking for an added kick, Argentum delivers tenfold.

Diesel is well known for their potent, full-bodied cigars and the brands sophomore release is still one of my favorites. Crafted by AJ Fernandez in Nicaragua, Diesel Unlimited sports a Cuban-seed ligero wrapper and long-fillers from Nicaragua and Mexico. The flawless construction and enticing notes of cedar, spice, and pepper will keep you coming back for more.

Dark Rituals was a limited release years back and sold out virtually overnight. Back and better than ever, this rich, full-bodied blend from E.P. Carrillo features an extra-fermented Connecticut Broadleaf maduro wrapper and a bold mix of Nicaraguan long-fillers. Its complex character is evident with each draw as delicious notes of coffee, leather, and spice entice the palate.

Camacho Triple Maduro is unique to say the least. Comprised entirely of a carefully selected mixture of maduro leaf from four different countries, this is one of the darkest, richest blends you can get your hands on. The wafting waves of spice, rich espresso sweetness, and smooth chocolate is something you can get lost in and truly relax.

This is one of the few mellow cigars you will find in my humidor. With a six-year-old US Connecticut wrapper and well-aged Cuban-seed fillers, this smooth and elegant blend offers a rich flavor profile dominated by strong notes of cedar. Don’t take this cigar’s smoothness for weakness; it’s enough to satisfy any enthusiast’s palate.

Dave | | Graycliff G2 Maduro

The addition of a dark and oily, Pennsylvania broadleaf wrapper to this affordable line from Graycliff really kick things up a notch. The blend is a hearty, medium body and is superbly constructed. Graycliff G2 Maduro offers a highly aromatic flavor profile of rich chocolate, spice, leather, and some sweetness on the finish. Fans of the original G2 blend should give this a try for a heartier, after-dinner treat.

As Black Ops most premium release to date, this bold looking torpedo features a large, gold foot band to mimic a .50 caliber bullet. It is a bit soft to the touch but no major construction issues. Right off the bat there is an onslaught of dark chocolate notes mixed with some espresso and black pepper. Housed in genuine ammo cans, the bar has just been raised. Black Ops Rubicon is an exceptional value with a great blend and unique packaging.

Covered in a dark brown Connecticut seed wrapper, this cigar could easily be mistaken as a Habano. The construction is great except for some minor discoloration and a soft spot down by the foot. On the low side of medium-bodied this Connecticut blend was a nice change of pace and impressive for the price. It delivers smooth and creamy flavors. It’s not overly complex but works nicely as an everyday, go-to blend.

AVO XO was one of the first premium cigars I ever had. They began selling in New York in 1988 following a relationship between master cigar maker Hendrik Kelner in the Dominican Republic and the musician and cigar aficionado, Avo Uvezian. A smooth and seamless Connecticut wrapper is rolled flawlessly around a complex, five country long filler blend. The strength is on the lighter side of medium the cigar offers smooth, earthy flavors mixed with hints of cedar and toasted nuts. A slight spice is noticed on the finish occasionally and a subtle floral aroma fills the air. While the ash is a bit weak and flaky at times, the burn is always even and the draw is effortless. AVO XO is a very balanced, smooth Dominican blend with complex flavors and a delightful aromatic quality. I enjoy these as a morning or mid-day indulgence when I’m looking for something with a ton of flavor without all the strength.

This cigar features immaculate construction and a dark, oily wrapper. Zero soft spots were detected throughout and the wrapper was applied seamlessly. Once lit, powerful notes of espresso and spice swarm the palate along with a slight sweetness from the wrapper. The performance of this cigar in terms of draw and burn were highly manageable. It produces thick clouds of intense smoke that filled the room resulting in a satisfying aroma. E.P. Carrillo Cardinal Maduro is a strong cigar with a complex flavor profile yet remains balanced due to a harmonious blend of tobaccos. This is one of E.P. Carrillo’s strongest releases and quite possibly his finest. Certainly a cigar that stands out from the crowd.

It’s no secret we love Diesel around the office. And when we look at sales numbers, we can see you agree with us. So naturally, when Diesel Uncut hit the docks, they moved out pretty quickly. So now that the dust has settled a bit, it’s time to fire one up for a review.

Diesel Uncut wasn’t what I expected. It’s got a rich cedary core that gives off a semi-sweet finish. And the finish is excellent. Just incredibly smooth and pairs really well with light coffee. I expected a ton of spice but didn’t really detect any until halfway through. And even then, it’s subtle and sits on the back of palate. Also, the unfinished foot provides for a nice, easy light. With cadre of cigars to choose from here, I’ve found myself coming back to these over and over. There are better cigars to enjoy over the weekend but you’d be hard-pressed to find a better everyday option that’s easy on the wallet but heavy on the palate.

Dave | | Spectre by AJ Fernandez
Overview: When the blend was launched, the contents of the cigar were unknown. Of course now that enthusiasts have got their hands on it, we’ve figured out that the fillers have a dose of Latakia tobaccos from Turkey. These smoky tobaccos are usually used with pipes and only very few blends use them for cigars. Easily one of AJ’s most unique blends to date, this is one that I’ve been dying to get my hands on.

Toro (6.0”x52): When you take a whiff of the foot of the cigar, your senses are overwhelmed with the smell of a campfire. Appetizing? Not really. When you light up the blend, the smoky aroma becomes even more apparent, yet, mixes well with the coffee-like aroma of the maduro wrapper. Surprisingly enough, the smoky flavor of the Latakia is in the background rather than being the dominate flavor. When combined with the Nicaraguan tobaccos and the maduro wrapper, the full package reminds me of a chili cooked with some strong-brewed coffee. Is it the best AJ Fernandez blend I ever had? No, but it’s the most unique and definitely a cigar that will add some diversity to my rotation.

Robusto (5.0”x52): Naturally the best size to start with any cigar line, the robusto comes out of the gates flawlessly. A rich aroma mirrors the almond and espresso notes up front and I’m thinking this could be my new favorite Rocky blend. After about an inch, however, the cigar starts to burn hot and the rich flavors of before are replaced by an unbalanced harsh smoke. What happened? 87/100 [Buy Now]

Toro (6.5”x54): In my opinion, the Toro size doesn’t stray too much from the robusto. Starts off amazing, ends up being disappointing. The last two-thirds just emits a harsh, light smoke that I can’t imagine too many enthusiasts will find appealing. 86/100 [Buy Now]

Colossal (7.0”x62): Naturally, I wasn’t too pleased to fire this size up as my last sample. Am I just going to get more of the same? In a way, yes. The cigar starts off magnificently and then turns. Yet, with the monstrous ring gauge, the harsh smoke of the smaller sizes burns cooler. And while the strength is still amped up, it’s pretty appealing. If you have a lot of time on your hands, this will pair nicely with a rum and coke.
Robusto (5.0”x52): Naturally the best size to start with any cigar line, the robusto comes out of the gates flawlessly. A rich aroma mirrors the almond and espresso notes up front and I’m thinking this could be my new favorite Rocky blend. Corona (5.5”x44): I always like to start a blend off with the corona size if possible. Even with all the “you-can-taste-the-components-better” argument, I think the coronas offer an enthusiast a nice appetizer of what’s to come from the blend. The corona size doesn’t disappoint. Wafting waves of spice and rich espresso sweetness, this size offers a nice kick start to your relaxation. 90/100 [Buy Now]

Robusto (5.0”x50): Jumping up in ring gauge, the robusto size offers a semi-diluted taste to what the corona brings. The spice is toned down but the espresso qualities shine through more. Overall though, you’d expect more from a cigar dubbed “Triple Maduro”. 88/100 [Buy Now]

6.0”x60 (well, I’m sure you can guess): To me, this is where Triple Maduro shines. There’s minimal spice on the finish and your palate is bombarded by rich, maduro flavors. While any copy will tell you this is a full-bodied cigar, this size is so smooth and chocolaty you barely recognize the strength. This blend is something you can get lost to and truly relax.

Dave | | Great For The Price
For an inexpensive handmade, General Grant does the job. Don't expect a well-balanced, super-premium character here. Instead, you'll be met with complexity, some sweetness, but mostly a gritty earthiness that is far from refined. And this is a good thing. For being rolled freehand without the use of molds, the construction holds up and the cigar burns quite nicely. The blend does present some changes in flavor and leaves behind a medium finish with quite a rich aftertaste. In our opinion, for the price, this is a good corona for those who prefer the gritty, real taste of tobacco.

Duck Commander Toro (6.0"x50): Decent blend with some tasty complex nuances. It remains a solid medium body from head to foot and does offer some sweetness on the finish. It performs well and tastes great, yet it doesn't astound you. The blend itself would be great to enjoy every day but isn't priced as an everyday cigar. For the high price point, there are better options out there.

Robusto (5.0"x52): Really creamy and smooth for a semi-hearty maduro. Easily medium-bodied with a touch of extra strength when cycling the smoke through your nostrils. Well-balanced, the blend remains consistent in flavor from head to foot with a mellow finish. A pleasure to burn.

Toro (6.0"x50):
Maintains that smooth, creamy character while adding a bit more strength to the finish. Although this stick is longer, the blend is no more complex than in the robusto size, so this size will treat any enthusiast well. Burns long, slow, and even with a cool smoke. The finish is slightly more robust.

Torpedo (6.2"x52):
If you're looking for a thoroughly robust experience, then pick up this torpedo and only cut a little off the cap. When you provide yourself a small ring gauge, the cigar really heats up, bringing forth powerful heartiness that almost turns into a full body. The blend is still creamy, but packs a bit more punch and offers more complexity. Of course, if you want a similar experience to the robusto or toro, then simply cut more off the head.

Dave | | Legado De Pepin
Belicoso (6.1”x52): With the longer body and a slightly bigger ring gauge, the Belicoso size really amps things up. The first inch of the cigar sets the tone with a medium-bodied flavor of cedar and spice. But after the first inch, the blend amps up and bombards your palate with rich flavors of espresso and caramel while finishing with a hearty black pepper spice. Blends like these are what made Pepin what he is today.

Churchill (7.0”x50):
The Churchill adds another 30 minutes of enjoyment and remains very similar to the Belicoso. If you loved the Belicoso, the Churchill just gives you more. It’s a nice Churchill like this that is perfect to enjoy after work on your Friday and completely sets up a relaxing weekend.

Robusto (5.0”x50):
What we have here is really just an appetizer. Don’t get me wrong, the blend is delicious but as soon bursts of espresso, cedar, caramel, and black pepper hit their sweet spot, the cigar is almost done. Highly recommended for quick enjoyment but stick to the larger sizes to get the full effect of the blend.

Rothchild (6.0”x54): Medium-bodied with more earth presented than spice. A touch of espresso reveals itself on the exhale while the blend burns even and true from head to foot due to its box-pressed shape. A great blend for any enthusiast. 89/100 [Buy Now]

Robusto (5.0”x52):
Quite similar to the late Gurkha Regent if you're familiar with that blend. Offers a smoother charater than the big rothchild but the cigar doesn't perform as well with a box-pressed 52 ring. The draw is a bit tight, the smoke a bit hot, and the flavor a bit more raw. However, it's still smooth and elegant while pushing the limits of medium-bodied. 88/100 [Buy Now]

XO (6.0”x60):
For those who like others to bask in their cigar smoke. This size expels a ton of thick, creamy smoke that fills your entire personal space with a hearty aroma of earth and pepper. The finish remains rich and bold with many competing notes of espresso and spice. What's ncie about this XO is although its a 6.0"x60, the cigar was so well-blended that the flavor profile doesn't change much.

Toro (6.0”x52): The toro really allows for the flavors to open up. The fatter ring gauge allows for a cooler burn and emits a smoother smoke than the robusto. Not overly complex, the blend is perfect as a cigar to pass the time but flavorful enough to really focus on the depth of the flavor. Pair this with a nice cup of coffee and you’ll be in heaven.

Churchill (7.2”x54):
Jumping up a ring gauge again, the Churchill loses a little bit of flavor that makes the Toro so good. But the same principles apply here. Smooth consistent flavor that’s perfect to pass the time. Even though we’re in the middle of winter, keep this on your radar for a round of golf or tailgating. The flavorful, consistent blend is mellow enough for when you’re socializing yet flavorful enough if you have a moment to yourself. Plus, the aroma is fantastic.

Robusto (5.2”x50):
Don't let the wrapper color fool you. It's darker than most Connecticut cigars but still presents those smooth Connecticut flavors you enjoy. If you're not a fan of spicy cigars, you'll love this robusto. A robust, earthy sensation will stimulate the tip of your tongue while the finish encapsulates your entire palate with earth and a hint of cedar. This pairs incredibly well with your morning cup of coffee.

Cortez (4.7”x50): Medium-bodied from start to finish with light complexities throughout. Expect a creamy finish from the Connecticut wrapper with some hints of black pepper and cedar in the aroma. Robust yet balanced.

DeSoto (6.8”x50):
The draw remains a bit tight as this size expels light puffs of smoke. Much more robust than the Cortez, greatly building in heartiness as you progress past three inches. Expert more notes of pepper and earth instead of cedar while the finish remains with you for a while after extinguished.

Balboa (7.5”x54):
Excellent draw and burn, releasing thick clouds of hearty smoke with an excellent earthy, cedar aroma. Not as creamy as the other sizes due to the extra Mexican fillers needed to fill the 54 ring gauge, so you'll lose some of the great flavors from the Connecticut wrapper. For those who want a less refined, bolder experience.

Columbus (8.2”x52):
We were looking forward to enjoy this size but unfortunately it simply didn't perform. It burned hot with a super tight draw and felt rather unbalanced. Strong and hearty but offered a bittnerness some may enjoy. If you're all about body and long burn times, this size is for you. But if you prefer a refined, well-balanced blend, stay away.

Potent, spicy, but incredibly smooth on the finish, this is one of the best Punch cigars we've ever experienced. From the packaging to the bands to the blend, everything is top notch here. Expect a massive complexity that builds and builds into a finale of epic earthiness followed by pepper and a hearty aroma.

Toro (6.0"x50): Consistent in flavor from head to foot with a smooth, clean finish. Creamy notes of spice and pepper swirl about while the well-balanced character creates an enjoyable aroma. For the price, this blend really impressed us. Well-constructed.

Torpedo (6.2"x52): Slightly more complex than the toro size but the draw remains quite tight. We suggest cutting the head down a bit further than usual on this one. Expect a strong flavor with the same enjoyable aroma as this size creates a lot more in terms of pepper and spice. Still remains medium-bodied from head to foot and burns slow.

Robusto (5.0"x52): A great 45-minute smoke but it remains rather one dimensional througout. Maintained an effortless draw but burned slightly uneven due to a thick vein in the wrapper. Produces plumes of thick smoke but this size doesn't represent the blends full potential.

Churchill (7.0"x48): Bold yet unbalanced is the theme of this churchill. If you're looking for more of a full-bodied experience, this is your size. The blend builds in strength as it burns but doesn't release as much smoke as the other sizes. It also burns slightly hot after 3 inches.

Robusto (5.5”x50): A really great start to testing the blend. The size is very conducive to the blend and the rich, semi-sweet Cameroon wrapper shines the most here.

Churchill (7.0”x48): Definitely the surprise of the bunch. The 48 ring gauge allowed for a ton of flavor and it only got stronger as the cigar burned. While it’s a long smoke, you’ll enjoy it right down to the nub.

Torpedo (6.25”x52): The shorter size seems to work better with the 52 ring gauge for some reason. Flavors seem to be more pronounced and this is a solid hour and half smoke.

Toro (6.5”x52): The fatter 52 ring gauge allows for a cooler smoke than the 50 ring gauge. Flavors are nice but slightly muted.

Sixty (6.0”x60): Blend tastes very watered-down with this size. Easily the size with the least flavor in the line, yet, we could see this being a nice blend for the golf course due to the long smoking time and light flavors.

You'll either love or hate this cigar with no middle ground inbetween. If you enjoy ridiculous amounts of hearty, heavy spices, full-throttled flavor, and a tingly sensation on your lips then you'll love Punisher. Bold is an understatement here. As soon as the cigar touches your lips you'll feel the power of this magnificent but super powerful blend. No exaggeration here, this is quite possibly the strongest cigar we've ever rated.

Robusto (5.0"x52) Very nice cigar. Full-flavored and full-bodied but it doesn't overwhelm your senses. You'll notice ample spicy characters and a semi-sweet finish for a well-balanced experience.

Churchill (7.0"x52)
Due to the 7-inch length, you'll find the power of this cigar continues to increase as the blend burns. By the time you reach the fourth inch, you're palate will be coated with oily notes of pepper and you won't find any sweetness. Recommended for experienced aficionados.

No. 2 Belicoso (6.1"x52)
Great size but not for this particular blend. It delivers complex flavors and keeps your interest from head to foot but avid enthusisasts may consider this a medium-bodied cigar since it's super smooth. We recommend cutting a lot off the head of this belicoso as it'll create a stronger, full flavor and an easier draw.

Toro (6.0"x52)
Great size for everyday enjoyment or to hand out. Offers the best in terms of balance as you'll find sweetness, pepper, spice, earth, and cedar. Only downfall is the fact that this stick never progresses into a stout, super-complex and full-bodied blend such as the robusto and churchill sizes.

Robusto (5.0"x50) A smooth blend from head to foot with little left for the imagination. Sports a fantastic looking Connecticut wrapper leaf and releases tons of flavor. Perfectly constructed, this is an excellent way to start your day. Great with coffee.

Torpedo (6.2"x52) Torpedo shape added a ton of complex flavors. You'll easily pick up cedar, earth and light pepper from head to toe. Based on how far you cut the head of this cigar, you'll find the blend either mellow or medium-bodied - depending on the draw. Great stick to hand out on the golf course as it looks like a super premium but with an everyday price.

Corona (5.7"x43) Our personal favorite of all the sizes, although it burned hot and offered a tight draw. However, the flavor this corona exudes is unmatched by any other size. It's quite robust but with a super smooth finish that leaves a ton of cedar and earth on your palate. The aroma remains toasty while the stick produces little smoke.

Churchill (7.0"x50) This 7"x50 parejo seems like it'll produce a hearty, robust flavor but that wasn't the case. It lacked balance and maintained a semi-tight draw before it opened up after an inch. Furthermore, it burned unevenly. Besides those major issues, the flavor was quite complex, changing from inch to inch so this size definitely keeps your interest. It produced thick, creamy, milky smoke, unlike the corona size, and left a heavy finish on your palate. If we didn't experience the construction issues, this size would have earned a higher rating.

d.X (5.7"x56) The most elegant of the all sizes. Light pepper graces your palate upon first light before becoming increasingly complex as the blend burns. Toro (6.0"x50) Incredibly smooth and full-flavored from start to finish. Offers a great balance between earth and cedar with a semi-sweet note on the finish.

Churchill (7.5"x52) Produces thick, creamy smoke and maintains a cool, even draw. The complexities are unique as the blend changes in flavor from inch to inch while slowly building in strength. Keeps a bold finish with a rich aftertaste.

Salomon (5.7"x54) Great, limited size for the true enthusiast. The 5.7"x54 frame burns perfectly and the thick foot allows for an easy light. Be sure to toast the foot a little longer than usual, which will allow the multitude of different tobaccos to combust together, producing ample flavor and complexity. Semi-spicy.

Robusto (5.0"x50) Great 45-minute smoke. Bold and hearty from start to finish while maintaining a smooth, toasty aftertaste. One of the best Connecticut-wrapped robustos on the market. If you enjoy tons of thick smoke with an earthy, cedary aroma, go with this size.

Torpedo (6.0"x50) If you enjoy figurados but are looking for something a bit less complex than the Salomon, the torpedo is a great substitute. Offers some complex flavors but the overall blend releases a core of earth and pepper from start to finish. Light sweet nuances intermingle throughout but are masked by a hearty, smooth finish.

Lonsdale (6.0"x44) Incredibly potent but lacks balance. The small ring burned unevenly for the first inch but corrected itself. Flavor stays the same from head to foot while releasing competing notes of pepper and earth. Strongest size in the line with a long finish.

Petit Robusto (4.5"x50) What a flavor bomb! If you're searching for that hearty, full-bodied maduro that gives off a rich character with little sweetness, then pick up this size. The short and stout 4.5"x50 frame allows for an effortless draw that exudes tons of thick smoke with many competing complexities that swirl around your palate. Many peppery, spicy flavors are present from head to foot while the finish is rich and full. A great, well blended cigar.

Churchill (7.0"x50) Perfect for those looking for that spicy Pepin flavor and expect at least 90 minutes of enjoyment. The size burns long and stead but slowly picks up in strength, providing a light, medium body up front before transitioning into a heavier character. The finish is very long with very little to offer in terms of sweetness.

Toro (6.0"x52) If you prefer a maduro with more sweetness than pepper or spice, then go with the Toro size in this line. Although you'll get the same hearty aftertaste found in the other sizes, the Toro leaves sweeter nuances on your palate and finish. The blend varies in complexity from head to foot with an emphasis on richness rather than spice. Enjoyable.

Poderoso (6.0"x54) This torpedo is super smooth yet maintains that robust character you're searching for when picking up an Antano. You'll get ample notes of spice and pepper but a semi-sweet finish leaves your palate feeling crisp.

Azarosa (4.5"x52) Recommended for those trying this blend for the first time. Spicy and robust with a clean finish. Expect a true, even burn with an effortless draw as this stick gains complexity from head to foot.

Pesadilla (4.7"x60) This thick perfecto creates a ton of complexity from the start with semi-sweet nuances throughout that intermingle with earthy, cedar-like flavors as the cigar burns. The second half of this beast is potent, strong and super full, which keeps your interest. Not balanced.

El Martillo (5.5"x54) The compliment to the Azarosa size, El Martillo is bold. While Azarosa creates a great balanced between spice, pepper and sweetness, El Martillo focuses on strength and a hearty character. Recommended for those who enjoy thick, full-bodied, full-tilt robustos. Offers a smooth finish.

Peligroso (5.0"x44) A firecracker to say the least. If you prefer a plethora of spice and pepper up front with no relief, this is your stick. Lost points due to a tight draw and it burns slightly hot, especially the last 3 inches.

Robusto (5.7"x50) Perfectly balanced which makes this size a real treat. The initial flavor presents a bouquet of earth and black pepper while drastically building in strength from start to finish. The finish offers no sweetness as its hearty, thick smoke engulfs your palate. Great stick.

Torpedo (6.0"x54) Complex and robust from the start. Intense notes of spice and pepper mask any earthy nuances while the finish remains bold with notes of cedar. Be sure to cut the head more than 1/4 inch down to ensure an effortless draw. Ages very well.

Double Toro (6.0"x60) Strong, potent, robust, powerful and recommended on a full stomach. Seriously, you'll feel the strength of this size in your head as well as your gut so we recommend enjoying this one after a heavy meal. The blend is complex, but its strength overpowers. If you like full-tilt, full-bodied cigars and care little about their complexity, go with this size.

The wrapper is incredibly oily with light veins and a smooth, seamless appearance. Very attractive. Upon lighting, light earthy nuances exist as thick smoke engulfs your palate. Cycle the smoke through your nose and you'll find sweet, coffee-like flavors on the finish. Expect a cool burn and effortless draw due to the thick ring gauge as the strength increases from medium to full as the blend burns. Rich and complex, this cigar is easily comparable to Camacho Triple Maduro or Don Pepin Garcia Serie JJ Maduro. Excellent.

Artistas (6.2"x52) This torpedo features a sturdy frame and exudes a ton of thick, creamy smoke. You'll taste a good amount of pepper during the initial light but the blend only slightly builds in strength, providing a great balance between body and flavor.

Hermosos (5.6"x46) Great after dinner. The length creates full flavors and allows for a slightly stronger body, making this size robust and complex. The ring gauge keeps the stick burning slow, even and creates hearty nuances with a lengthy finish.

Nobles (5.0"x50) A great 45-minute indulgence. Consistent in flavor from start to finish with many competing nuances of earth throughout. Light spices grace the palate for a medium finish while the smoke emitted is thick and aromatic.

Almirantes (7.0"x47) With a perfect balance between flavor and strength, this size burns like your standard churchill. Expect at least 70 minutes of enjoyment as the blend burns clean and even. Pepper and rich notes of cedar intermingle throughout. Enjoyably complex.

Victorias (6.0"x38) If you enjoy long cigars and relatively quick smokes, then Victorias is your size as it only burns for about 30 minutes. Very robust and incredibly potent, this almost tastes like a different blend since its long length and small ring gauge create a full body with an exorbitant amount of pepper left to tantalize your senses. Burned hot and slightly uneven.

Angeles (4.6"x42) A perfect winter blend. You'll only need about 25 minutes to enjoy this size. The flavors produced are potent and earthy, maintaining a great character, but the cigar burns incredibly hot.

Gol! (5.0"x56) The big ring allows for a cool, even and effortless burn and draw. The complexities of this size overwhelm the palate with rich nuances and a sweet aftertaste. Enjoyable.

Amazon (6.0"x60) A little longer than the Gol!, this size really opens up after an inch and continues to build in complexity as the cigar burns. Very rich with full flavors.

Lambada (6.0"x50) Offered less pepper up front and burned slightly uneven. The wrapper looked great, however, and the cigar emitted a fantastic aroma.

Ipanema (7.0"x50) This size you'll need at least an hour to enjoy but it doesn't get too exciting until the final 4 inches, where it just builds in strength to become a full-bodied powerhouse towards the nub. Make sure you have a full stomach before trying this one.

Torpedo (6.5"x52) Smooth with cedar and earth throughout. Draw was a bit tight at first but drastically opened up within less than half an inch. The aroma is excellent and non-offensive as the strength slowly builds from start to finish but still maintains a smooth, refined flavor.

Lonsdale (6.5"x44) The skinny ring gauge creates a well-rounded but more robust character allowing this medium Connecticut to feel a bit more full in body. The aftertaste is potent, leaving crisp cedar like flavors on the palate with pronounced notes of pepper.

Robusto (5.0"x50) No soft spots were present and the blend burned even and cool. Produced a ton of thick smoke but was far less complex than expected. Consistent flavor from start to finish with little left for the imagination.

Toro (6.0"x50) Burned evenly from start to finish and offered a creamy character with some light spice. Unfortunately the flavors are not as pronounced in comparison to the torpedo or lonsdale.

Churchill (7.0"x50) Size was not balanced as it burned hot and tickled the back of the throat. The wrapper burned down the right side before attempting to correct itself unsuccessfully. If you’re looking for a Connecticut wrapped stick with some hearty undertones and a robust finish then this is your size.

Torpedo (6" x 54) The torpedo really emphasized all of the characteristics of the infused tobaccos. Complex with notes of cocoa, coffee, and sweet fruity nuances, this was a rare treat. The aroma is amazingly inviting.

Robusto (5" x 54) The draw was perfect as no "double puffing" was needed. Although a bit less complex than the torpedo, many thick notes of espresso overwhelmed the senses. Seemed a bit stronger.

Toro (6" x 54) Burned unevenly and offered a tighter draw. The flavors at the start were similar to the other sizes but this blend drastically changed half-way through. The finish was potent and strong, with some incredibly light hints of pepper noticeable in the back of the palate. The aroma, again, was excellent.

#2 Torpedo (5.5" x 52) Excellent. Offered earthy nuances at first, then more robust flavors of spice became noticeable throughout. Maintained an even burn with an easy draw and emitted a milky smoke that had a leathery, cedar-like character. Very rich.

#3 (5.6" x 46) Initial light was very smooth, with the blend drastically increasing in power within a half inch of enjoyment. The burn was cool, and although slightly complex, the flavors remained consistent from start to finish.

#4 (5" x 48) Perfect draw and burn throughout with a good mixture of cedar, earth, and peppery nuances. Notes of earth were more exaggerated over spice, leaving a smooth finish on the palate. First two inches were very complex as the blend become more linear towards the head.

#1 (6.5" x 42) Very complex, with different flavors of spice and pepper changing throughout the burn. This size burned hotter than the others, mostly due to the small ring gauge, and became incredibly robust towards the final three inches. Many flavors of pepper were noticeable in this blend but the rich characteristics seem lost.

#5 (4.4" x 42) Offered a tight draw with a noticeably hot burn. Cigar was very robust, and scratched the back of the throat, as a ton of pepper and spice engulfs the palate. Although a relatively quick smoke, perfect for the winter season, expect more of a full-bodied robust characteristic over a richer, smoother medium-bodied character.

Robusto (5.0"x50) Maduro: Rich from start to finish and burns very evenly. This smoke is very easy to draw and contains rich notes of coffee in which the flavor is consistent throughout. Corojo: Very spicy with many nuances of pepper. The aroma has few hints of spice and the cigar is surprisingly smooth for its strength.

Toro (6.0"x52) Maduro: Contains some acidic flavors and becomes increasingly stronger with each puff. The smoke is very creamy and has a chocolate aroma, but no chocolate flavors. This cigar has a slightly tight draw and provides a noticeable sweetness on the palate. Slightly uneven burn. Corojo: Noticeable spice immediately to the lips. The smoke is somewhat creamy but includes accented notes of pepper. Again, the burn is a bit tight and uneven.

Torpedo (6.0"x52) Maduro: This torpedo burns evenly from start to finish and has a very good draw. Cocoa nuances engulf the palate and this smoke is complex in comparison to the others. The construction is flawless and there is very little acidic content. Corojo: Very complex, especially towards the finish. Many earthy undertones arise from the peppery nuances and this cigar seems to be bland if not for the spice it produces. The smoke does not overwhelm the palate and never gets too strong.

Double Corona (7.5"x52) Maduro: The draw is very tight and the wrapper is slightly oily with veins protruding throughout. Some acidic flavors are experienced immediately and then it mellows out into a rich body, with notes of espresso. The ash is very dark and there is a subtle sweet aftertaste which also includes some charcoal flavors. Corojo: This cigar is very mellow at first and then increasingly becomes stronger with spice and pepper flavors that cling to the back of the throat. The burn is even and the draw is very easy. The pepper flavors increase inch by inch, and provide a very long finish.
