As Black Ops most premium release to date, this bold looking torpedo features a large, gold foot band to mimic a .50 caliber bullet. It is a bit soft to the touch but no major construction issues. Right off the bat there is an onslaught of dark chocolate notes mixed with some espresso and black pepper. Housed in genuine ammo cans, the bar has just been raised. Black Ops Rubicon is an exceptional value with a great blend and unique packaging.

Rocky Patel is back with an exciting new release in the form of a hearty maduro featuring a San Andres wrapper and a carefully selected blend of Nicaraguan long fillers. Despite its bold packaging, this one has a rather tamed and refined character. To me, that’s a good thing. Right off the bat, this well-balanced cigar is incredibly smooth with rich notes of coffee and chocolate. To be honest, I was expecting a bold spice that is typical with San Andres wrappers. Instead there were just light hints of cedar, spice, and sweetness on the finish which added a nice bit of complexity to the blend. Neither flavor would completely overpower the others. I can really respect such a full-flavored cigar that doesn’t knock you back in your seat in terms of strength. Flor de San Andres remains firmly in the medium-bodied camp throughout and can be enjoyed any time of day. If you’re looking for a new everyday maduro you can’t go wrong here.

Developed by the Cuban cigar maker, AJ Fernandez, who has produced some of the finest cigars in Nicaragua, Hoyo La Amistad is a bold move for the legendary Hoyo de Monterrey brand. I have to admit, when I first heard that AJ Fernandez was teaming up with Hoyo for a release, it had me scratching my head, but at the same time I couldn’t wait to light one up. After hearing that AJ Fernandez and his family grew up very near to the Hoyo de Monterrey farm in Cuba I knew he had put his all in this one.

The cigar features perfect construction. Once lit, you know you’re in for a bold and full-bodied treat. While the cigar is strong, it is nowhere near overpowering and there are some nice sweet and spicy notes mixed in that help to balance out the palate. While I didn’t find the blend to be overly complex or change much throughout, Hoyo La Amistad certainly lives up to its historic branding and delivers a classic, Cuban-esque experience that even the most discerning aficionados can enjoy.

The very smooth and easy draw once lit was just the beginning of the excitement. A rich, complex flavor profile of dark roasted coffee, leather, and a slight spice combine to create a full-bodied cigar with all the strength and power you could ever want while remaining incredibly smooth draw after draw. The burn and construction is also top-notch from head to foot. Camacho Powerband is the perfect cigar for those who are looking for a full-bodied experience without any harsh or bitter qualities.

A dark brown Corojo wrapper grown in Honduras is seamlessly applied and gently box pressed to perfection around a core of Nicaraguan and Honduran long-fillers. Once lit, you’re palate overwhelmed with a complex flavor profile dominated by pepper and rounded out with slight hints of mocha and caramel on the finish. The burn line was nice and thin and the ash was compact, holding form for the entire first third of the cigar. The strength clocked out at medium to full-bodied. Alec Bradley Post Embargo truly encapsulates that Cuban-esque style of clean and balanced yet rich in flavor.

I’ve always been a fan of The Griffin’s. When you’re in the mood for a reliable morning or mid-day mellow cigar, they never let you down. So when I heard that Davidoff was releasing The Griffin’s Nicaragua, I knew I had to try one. True to Nicaraguan form, it is a complete departure from the original Connecticut offering. In fact, the only thing they have in common was the superior construction. The Griffin’s Nicaraguan packs quite a punch right from the start, especially the Short Torpedo size. Wasting no time, you are immediately hit with a bold spice up front along with notes of chocolate, leather, and cedar in the background. I did detect a slight bitterness on the tongue on the finish towards the end of the cigar but nothing that made the cigar any less enjoyable. This is a well-blended, medium to full-bodied cigar that brings The Griffin’s brand into a whole new realm for fans of full-bodied, Nicaraguan tobacco. And despite all its boldness, a hint of that signature Dominican tobacco in the filler still lingers.

Argentum, on the other hand, is topped with a thick and flavorful Connecticut Broadleaf maduro wrapper which boosts the strength up a notch, offering ample notes of spice, pepper, and leather. I found this cigar to be medium to full- bodied while still retaining that signature smoothness the Ave Maria brand is so well known for. If you love the original Ave Maria line but looking for an added kick, Argentum delivers tenfold.

Covered in a dark brown Connecticut seed wrapper, this cigar could easily be mistaken as a Habano. The construction is great except for some minor discoloration and a soft spot down by the foot. On the low side of medium-bodied this Connecticut blend was a nice change of pace and impressive for the price. It delivers smooth and creamy flavors. It’s not overly complex but works nicely as an everyday, go-to blend.

They began selling in New York in 1988 following a relationship between master cigar maker Hendrik Kelner in the Dominican Republic and the musician and cigar aficionado, Avo Uvezian. A smooth and seamless Connecticut wrapper is rolled flawlessly around a complex, five country long filler blend. The strength is on the lighter side of medium the cigar offers smooth, earthy flavors mixed with hints of cedar and toasted nuts. A slight spice is noticed on the finish occasionally and a subtle floral aroma fills the air. While the ash is a bit weak and flaky at times, the burn is always even and the draw is effortless. AVO XO is a very balanced, smooth Dominican blend with complex flavors and a delightful aromatic quality. I enjoy these as a morning or mid-day indulgence when I’m looking for something with a ton of flavor without all the strength.

It produces thick clouds of intense smoke that filled the room resulting in a satisfying aroma. E.P. Carrillo Cardinal Maduro is a strong cigar with a complex flavor profile yet remains balanced due to a harmonious blend of tobaccos. This is one of E.P. Carrillo’s strongest releases and quite possibly his finest. Certainly a cigar that stands out from the crowd.

It’s no secret we love Diesel around the office. And when we look at sales numbers, we can see you agree with us. So naturally, when Diesel Uncut hit the docks, they moved out pretty quickly. So now that the dust has settled a bit, it’s time to fire one up for a review.

Diesel Uncut wasn’t what I expected. It’s got a rich cedary core that gives off a semi-sweet finish. And the finish is excellent. Just incredibly smooth and pairs really well with light coffee. I expected a ton of spice but didn’t really detect any until halfway through. And even then, it’s subtle and sits on the back of palate. Also, the unfinished foot provides for a nice, easy light. With cadre of cigars to choose from here, I’ve found myself coming back to these over and over. There are better cigars to enjoy over the weekend but you’d be hard-pressed to find a better everyday option that’s easy on the wallet but heavy on the palate.

Overview: When the blend was launched, the contents of the cigar were unknown. Of course now that enthusiasts have got their hands on it, we’ve figured out that the fillers have a dose of Latakia tobaccos from Turkey. These smoky tobaccos are usually used with pipes and only very few blends use them for cigars. Easily one of AJ’s most unique blends to date, this is one that I’ve been dying to get my hands on.

Toro (6.0”x52): When you take a whiff of the foot of the cigar, your senses are overwhelmed with the smell of a campfire. Appetizing? Not really. When you light up the blend, the smoky aroma becomes even more apparent, yet, mixes well with the coffee-like aroma of the maduro wrapper. Surprisingly enough, the smoky flavor of the Latakia is in the background rather than being the dominate flavor. When combined with the Nicaraguan tobaccos and the maduro wrapper, the full package reminds me of a chili cooked with some strong-brewed coffee. Is it the best AJ Fernandez blend I ever had? No, but it’s the most unique and definitely a cigar that will add some diversity to my rotation.

Robusto (5.0”x52): Naturally the best size to start with any cigar line, the robusto comes out of the gates flawlessly. A rich aroma mirrors the almond and espresso notes up front and I’m thinking this could be my new favorite Rocky blend. After about an inch, however, the cigar starts to burn hot and the rich flavors of before are replaced by an unbalanced harsh smoke. What happened? 87/100 [Buy Now]

Toro (6.5”x54): In my opinion, the Toro size doesn’t stray too much from the robusto. Starts off amazing, ends up being disappointing. The last two-thirds just emits a harsh, light smoke that I can’t imagine too many enthusiasts will find appealing. 86/100 [Buy Now]

Colossal (7.0”x62): Naturally, I wasn’t too pleased to fire this size up as my last sample. Am I just going to get more of the same? In a way, yes. The cigar starts off magnificently and then turns. Yet, with the monstrous ring gauge, the harsh smoke of the smaller sizes burns cooler. And while the strength is still amped up, it’s pretty appealing. If you have a lot of time on your hands, this will pair nicely with a rum and coke.

6.0”x60 (well, I’m sure you can guess): To me, this is where Triple Maduro shines. There’s minimal spice on the finish and your palate is bombarded by rich, maduro flavors. While any copy will tell you this is a full-bodied cigar, this size is so smooth and chocolaty you barely recognize the strength. This blend is something you can get lost to and truly relax.

Toro (6.0"x50): Maintains that smooth, creamy character while adding a bit more strength to the finish. Although this stick is longer, the blend is no more complex than in the robusto size, so this size will treat any enthusiast well. Burns long, slow, and even with a cool smoke. The finish is slightly more robust.

Torpedo (6.2"x52): If you're looking for a thoroughly robust experience, then pick up this torpedo and only cut a little off the cap. When you provide yourself a small ring gauge, the cigar really heats up, bringing forth powerful heartiness that almost turns into a full body. The blend is still creamy, but packs a bit more punch and offers more complexity. Of course, if you want a similar experience to the robusto or toro, then simply cut more off the head.

Blends like these are what made Pepin what he is today.

Churchill (7.0”x50): The Churchill adds another 30 minutes of enjoyment and remains very similar to the Belicoso. If you loved the Belicoso, the Churchill just gives you more. It’s a nice Churchill like this that is perfect to enjoy after work on your Friday and completely sets up a relaxing weekend.

Don’t get me wrong, the blend is delicious but as soon bursts of espresso, cedar, caramel, and black pepper hit their sweet spot, the cigar is almost done. However, it's still smooth and elegant while pushing the limits of medium-bodied. 88/100 [Buy Now]

XO (6.0”x60): For those who like others to bask in their cigar smoke. This size expels a ton of thick, creamy smoke that fills your entire personal space with a hearty aroma of earth and pepper. The finish remains rich and bold with many competing notes of espresso and spice. What's ncie about this XO is although its a 6.0"x60, the cigar was so well-blended that the flavor profile doesn't change much.

Toro (6.0”x52): The toro really allows for the flavors to open up. The fatter ring gauge allows for a cooler burn and emits a smoother smoke than the robusto. Not overly complex, the blend is perfect as a cigar to pass the time but flavorful enough to really focus on the depth of the flavor. Pair this with a nice cup of coffee and you’ll be in heaven.

Churchill (7.2”x54): Jumping up a ring gauge again, the Churchill loses a little bit of flavor that makes the Toro so good. But the same principles apply here. Smooth consistent flavor that’s perfect to pass the time. Even though we’re in the middle of winter, keep this on your radar for a round of golf or tailgating. The flavorful, consistent blend is mellow enough for when you’re socializing yet flavorful enough if you have a moment to yourself. Plus, the aroma is fantastic.

LAS CABRILLAS RETURNS

Cortez (4.7”x50): Medium-bodied from start to finish with light complexities throughout. Expect a creamy finish from the Connecticut wrapper with some hints of black pepper and cedar in the aroma. Robust yet balanced.

DeSoto (6.8”x50): The draw remains a bit tight as this size expels light puffs of smoke. Much more robust than the Cortez, greatly building in heartiness as you progress past three inches. Expert more notes of pepper and earth instead of cedar while the finish remains with you for a while after extinguished.

Balboa (7.5”x54): Excellent draw and burn, releasing thick clouds of hearty smoke with an excellent earthy, cedar aroma. Not as creamy as the other sizes due to the extra Mexican fillers needed to fill the 54 ring gauge, so you'll lose some of the great flavors from the Connecticut wrapper. For those who want a less refined, bolder experience.

Columbus (8.2”x52): We were looking forward to enjoy this size but unfortunately it simply didn't perform. It burned hot with a super tight draw and felt rather unbalanced. Strong and hearty but offered a bittnerness some may enjoy. If you're all about body and long burn times, this size is for you. But if you prefer a refined, well-balanced blend, stay away.

Robusto (5.5”x50): A really great start to testing the blend. The size is very conducive to the blend and the rich, semi-sweet Cameroon wrapper shines the most here.

Churchill (7.0”x48): Definitely the surprise of the bunch. The 48 ring gauge allowed for a ton of flavor and it only got stronger as the cigar burned. While it’s a long smoke, you’ll enjoy it right down to the nub.

Torpedo (6.25”x52): The shorter size seems to work better with the 52 ring gauge for some reason. Flavors seem to be more pronounced and this is a solid hour and half smoke.

Toro (6.5”x52): The fatter 52 ring gauge allows for a cooler smoke than the 50 ring gauge. Flavors are nice but slightly muted.

Corona (5.7"x43) Our personal favorite of all the sizes, although it burned hot and offered a tight draw. However, the flavor this corona exudes is unmatched by any other size. It's quite robust but with a super smooth finish that leaves a ton of cedar and earth on your palate. The aroma remains toasty while the stick produces little smoke.

Expect a cool burn and effortless draw due to the thick ring gauge as the strength increases from medium to full as the blend burns. Rich and complex, this cigar is easily comparable to Camacho Triple Maduro or Don Pepin Garcia Serie JJ Maduro. Excellent.

Artistas (6.2"x52) This torpedo features a sturdy frame and exudes a ton of thick, creamy smoke. You'll taste a good amount of pepper during the initial light but the blend only slightly builds in strength, providing a great balance between body and flavor.

Hermosos (5.6"x46) Great after dinner. The length creates full flavors and allows for a slightly stronger body, making this size robust and complex. The ring gauge keeps the stick burning slow, even and creates hearty nuances with a lengthy finish.

Nobles (5.0"x50) A great 45-minute indulgence. Consistent in flavor from start to finish with many competing nuances of earth throughout. Light spices grace the palate for a medium finish while the smoke emitted is thick and aromatic.

Almirantes (7.0"x47) With a perfect balance between flavor and strength, this size burns like your standard churchill. Expect at least 70 minutes of enjoyment as the blend burns clean and even. Pepper and rich notes of cedar intermingle throughout. Enjoyably complex.

Victorias (6.0"x38) If you enjoy long cigars and relatively quick smokes, then Victorias is your size as it only burns for about 30 minutes. Lonsdale (6.5"x44) The skinny ring gauge creates a well-rounded but more robust character allowing this medium Connecticut to feel a bit more full in body. The aftertaste is potent, leaving crisp cedar like flavors on the palate with pronounced notes of pepper.

Robusto (5.0"x50) No soft spots were present and the blend burned even and cool. Produced a ton of thick smoke but was far less complex than expected. Consistent flavor from start to finish with little left for the imagination.

Toro (6.0"x50) Burned evenly from start to finish and offered a creamy character with some light spice. Unfortunately the flavors are not as pronounced in comparison to the torpedo or lonsdale.

Churchill (7.0"x50) Size was not balanced as it burned hot and tickled the back of the throat. The wrapper burned down the right side before attempting to correct itself unsuccessfully. If you’re looking for a Connecticut wrapped stick with some hearty undertones and a robust finish then this is your size.

Toro (6" x 54) Burned unevenly and offered a tighter draw. The flavors at the start were similar to the other sizes but this blend drastically changed half-way through. The finish was potent and strong, with some incredibly light hints of pepper noticeable in the back of the palate. The aroma, again, was excellent.

#4 (5" x 48) Perfect draw and burn throughout with a good mixture of cedar, earth, and peppery nuances. Notes of earth were more exaggerated over spice, leaving a smooth finish on the palate. First two inches were very complex as the blend become more linear towards the head.

Epicure (6.0"x50) Excellent burn. The cigar is relatively mellow for the first inch and then explodes with flavor as it burns towards the head. Sweet nuances are noticeable and the finish seems to last longer than expected. The complexities are greatly noticeable from inch to inch. Preferred size.

Unico (torpedo) (6.2"x54) Perfectly constructed and offers more complexities than the Epicure. The wrapper is almost flawless with little veins and the draw is very, very easy. Definitely the best size when looking at construction and complexity.

Magnum (5.5"x55) Features a very easy draw, flawless construction. Produces a creamy smoke and many spicy nuances can be tasted. Perfect forty-five minute cigar.

Club Corona (5.5"x44) More robust than the other sizes and the draw is a bit tight. Due to its size, the flavors seem stronger and the spice is abundant from start to finish. Noticed almost no sweet nuances but still, very enjoyable.

Edmundo (5.0"x55) This fat robusto has a cool burn that slowly roasts its oily maduro wrapper. Sweet notes of cedar are on the palate with caramel and espresso undertones. Very nice burn.

No. 2 (6.1"x54) This torpedo brings some complexity to the palate with flavors that change over the course of the smoke which include notes of peat, wood and a short sugary finish.

No. 3 (5.5"x44) This corona has the most flavor relative to the other sizes. While the cigar became a bit hot toward the end, it brought complex and balanced flavors to the palate including a sweet coffee aroma that had a moderate finish.

Churchill (7.0"x58) This cigar was a bit difficult to smoke on account of its diameter. Bitter, damp notes of peat with hints of leather were on the palate with some balance issues.

Edmundo (5.0"x55) This fat robusto has a cool burn that slowly roasts its oily maduro wrapper. Sweet notes of cedar are on the palate with caramel and espresso undertones. Very nice burn.

No. 2 (6.1"x54) This torpedo brings some complexity to the palate with flavors that change over the course of the smoke which include notes of peat, wood and a short sugary finish.

No. 3 (5.5"x44) This corona has the most flavor relative to the other sizes. While the cigar became a bit hot toward the end, it brought complex and balanced flavors to the palate including a sweet coffee aroma that had a moderate finish.

Torpedo (6.0"x54) Beautiful figurado with an oily wrapper. The draw on this cigar is generous, yielding copious amounts of smoke that bring wood and nut flavors to the palate with hints of spiciness.

Corona (5.5"x44) This petit cigar has the most flavor relative to the other sizes offered in 5 Vegas Classic line. Well made with cedary flavors and a moderate finish. Medium bodied.

Robusto (5.0"x50) Well filled cigar that has a heavy feel in the hand. Dry on the palate with notes of wood and hints of spice and leather.

Double Corona (6.0"x48) A medium bodied cigar with a moderate finish and rich flavor. Cedary, wood notes with hints of nuts and spice. Some sweetness on the palate.

Mosaic (6.0"x42) Creamy brown, silky wrapper. Very attractive cigar. Pre-light flavors of cedar and light tobacco. Excellent construction with cedar, earthy aromas and some notes of honey. Salty on the palate but well balanced. Spice present through the nose and on the finish. Attractive cigar in a very classic size. Medium to full flavored and bodied with a delicious, long finish.

Storm (5.0"x50) Oily, light brown wrapper. Classic robusto size packed with flavor and well balanced. Great draw and flawless construction. Earth, cedar and salty notes on the palate.

Frontier (7.0"x50) Impressive, cedar wrapped cigar. Silky, creamy brown wrapper with an excellent draw. Salt and earthy notes with wood on the palate. Well balanced and medium to full bodied.

Bengal (6.0"x50) Classic toro size. Excellent burn and construction, which was consistent with all other sizes – extremely well made. Medium flavor and body.

Gothic (6.0"x52) Big cigar with a great deal of flavor. Silky, golden brown wrapper and cool notes on the palate. Never became hot or bitter. Medium to full bodied with earth and wood notes on the palate. Very unique character.
