Cuba Libre is an extraordinary blend from Central America.
Rolled by Nestor Plasencia, one of Central America's top cigar makers and the world's single largest grower of Cuban-seed tobacco, his beloved Cuba Libre blend is a unique mix of aged Cuban seed long-fillers bound with an authentic, exquisite Corojo wrapper—a wrapper selected specifically for its oily texture and robust flavor. This project is near and dear to the Plasencia family because, as a younger man, Nestor was driven out of Cuba and his tobacco, farms, and factories were confiscated by Castro. He often talks of one day returning to a “free Cuba” to continue his family's five-generation tobacco tradition. So as you might imagine, this blend was one he poured his heart and soul into, and the result is nothing less than extraordinary. In fact, it's possibly the finest to ever come out of his factory. That's really saying something, considering Nestor's factories craft most of Rocky Patel's blends, MAXX by Alec Bradley, and some Gurkha lines, among others.
Cuba Libre is characterized by its earthy, leathery flavor that has an almost chewy texture and an enjoyably long finish. The interplay of ample spicy notes with a subtle sweetness brings forth a complexity that can only be found in cigars crafted of 100% Cuban-seed tobacco. Packaged in exceedingly elegant cedar boxes of 20, Cuba Libre is a top-rated pick, and one of the industry's best values in full-flavored cigars.
Great smoke for the price! I will buy again
I had one of these a while back and for some reason have not bought more! I was hooked at the first puff and the box-pressed shape was interesting, in the good way! I will definitely be buying again as soon as I start getting my hands on a better paycheck. Worth the four bucks!
Like Rob C, I wasn't expecting much from this smoke, but was really pleased with its smoothness and flavors. I usually enjoy stronger smokes, however this mild to medium is a great diversion that starts out even and mild and builds in intensity, without being intense, if that makes any sense. During the second third there are subtle hints of almond and a nice mild peppery mint, almost menthol flavor. The end builds on these flavors and is a definite nubber, never getting too hot. The pepper builds without ever burning my lips. I like that in a smoke. I got 4 of these in a torpedo sampler and will definitely be buying these by the box to keep on hand for an occasional diversion. I think these would be a great starter smoke for those new to cigars as well as for experienced smokers. Excellent value too. They've earned a home among my premies.
One of the smoothest smokes I've had. Rich taste
and an awesome wrapper.
Honestly didn't expect much from this cigar, but was very pleasantly surprised!! Burned even, with a very smooth creamy smoke. More of a mild/medium between meal smoke. Very inexpensive and could be part of a daily rotation
Epicure (6.0"x50) Excellent burn. The cigar is relatively mellow for the first inch and then explodes with flavor as it burns towards the head. Sweet nuances are noticeable and the finish seems to last longer than expected. The complexities are greatly noticeable from inch to inch. Preferred size.
Unico (torpedo) (6.2"x54) Perfectly constructed and offers more complexities than the Epicure. The wrapper is almost flawless with little veins and the draw is very, very easy. Definitely the best size when looking at construction and complexity.
Magnum (5.5"x55) Features a very easy draw, flawless construction. Produces a creamy smoke and many spicy nuances can be tasted. Perfect forty-five minute cigar.
Club Corona (5.5"x44) More robust than the other sizes and the draw is a bit tight. Due to its size, the flavors seem stronger and the spice is abundant from start to finish. Noticed almost no sweet nuances but still, very enjoyable.
Chairman (7.0"x52) The draw is a bit tight for the size; however, this stick offers a stronger experience. The blend is balanced throughout but the burn was slightly uneven. Great to enjoy after a hearty meal.
