Expert Picks: Choice Churchills
Named for one of the most iconic aficionados of all time, the Churchill cigar honors former British Prime Minister Sir Winston Churchill. Originally made in a 7.0”x47 vitola, we’ve seen a number of variations since it was first conceived by Romeo y Julieta decades ago. What hasn’t changed is the complexity this size can provide compared to shorter cigars. Our panel of experts assembled a collection of Churchills so good, that Sir Winston himself would be undoubtedly impressed.
Encased with a dark and oily Dominican wrapper with Dominican long-fillers tucked beneath, Dark Dominican is a decadent mellow to medium-bodied blend with notes of sweet cedar, earth, and nuts. One of my favorite cigars from Rocky Patel.
Aging Room Quattro F55 is an amazing cigar. Medium to full-bodied, it opens with spice and leather, then mellows to earthy coffee tones with some slightly sweet woody notes. After enjoying one, you’ll need to clear out the humidor for an entire box!
Blended by AJ Fernandez himself, Ave Maria is one of the finest cigars available. Showcasing an Ecuador Habano wrapper with a Nicaraguan long-leaf tobacco, this is an exquisite blend. Well-balanced with a creamy profile, Ave Maria is one of my favorites.
Reserve is another impressive offering from Romeo y Julieta! Full in body, this cigar is bursting with flavor. Expertly blended with Nicaraguan and Honduran long-fillers swaddled beneath a dark and oily Nicaraguan wrapper, expect hints of earth, spice, and sweetness.
Gilberto Reserva Blanc is Oliva’s newest release since 2012, and it’s well worth the wait. This mellow to medium-bodied blend sports a golden Ecuador Connecticut wrapper which encases Nicaraguan long-leaf. A classic Connecticut profile with notes of cashew, cream, and a bit of graham cracker.
