Spotlight Brand: Sons of Anarchy Clubhouse Edition KG-9

September 21, 2014 |

The strongest in the club.

Adrenaline-laced is one way to put it—revved up is another. No matter how you refer to it, the best thing to do is just try one out for yourself. KG-9 is a premium addition to the popular Sons of Anarchy line from Black Crown, and if the popularity of the other releases is any indication, this one is destined for greatness.

The original Sons of Anarchy blend from Black Crown was an instant success. Fans of the hit television show couldn’t wait to have a taste, and when they did, an important secret was revealed: this wasn’t just another marketing ploy, it was actually a top-notch cigar. It wasn’t long before every cigar enthusiast in town was lining up to try it. Now that additional blends have been added, the party is really getting started.

Sons of Anarchy Clubhouse Edition KG-9 features a solid, impressive construction, and like the other items in the portfolio, it utilizes high quality, premium tobacco leaves. A hearty core of Nicaraguan fillers is topped off by a Cuban-seed Habano wrapper leaf. Spicy, intense, and full of zesty aromas, this blend fits in well with the Sons of Anarchy legacy. Plus, each order comes packaged in an awesome replica gun crate, which would look great displayed in your office or man cave. It doesn’t matter if you love the show or if you’ve never seen an episode—this premium handmade is the real deal.

Q & A: Ring Gauge

Q.
When buying a cigar, there are so many sizes to choose from. Where do I even start?

With the recent trend of big ring cigars over the past few years, new enthusiasts can find it difficult to nail down what exactly they prefer in a ring gauge. Ten years ago, you primarily had to choose from rings gauges in the area of 40-54. Today, that range has increased to 40-70. And the general rule of thumb here is that thinner the cigar, the more flavor it has. The thinner service area burns hotter and expels a more flavorful smoke; the thicker surface area burns cooler and smoother. Also, the wrapper to filler ration on a smaller ringer is greater which allows you to pull more flavor from the wrapper itself.

Review: E.P. Carrillo La Historia

The first thing that popped in my head while enjoying these was how smooth they were. There’s absolutely no spice to the blend. The cigar has an oaky core with a rich espresso finish and has absolutely no complexity. Of course, I say that as a complement. There are a ton of cigars out there that boast a world of complexity but end up falling flat in muddled confusing mess. La Historia shows what a seasoned blender can do with properly aged and fermented tobaccos. Carrillo has been in the business for a long time and knows that you don’t need to throw a million flavors at a palate for a cigar to be good. Novices will like this cigar; season enthusiasts will love it.
