2013, the ideal year for Broadleaf.
The Connecticut River Valley experienced high temperatures and increased rainfall during the 2013 growing season, thus creating an ideal climate for coveted Broadleaf tobacco. Fast-forward to a decade later, and General Cigar has released the Macanudo Vintage Maduro 2013 in celebration of this special harvest. This blend is rich yet balanced, with notes of coffee bean, citrus peel, spice, and earth on the palate. While it can be enjoyed alone, these premiums pair well with bourbon or scotch from the Speyside region.
Offered in three vitolas, each Vintage Maduro 2013 uses an aged Connecticut Broadleaf Maduro wrapper atop a Honduran Olancho San Agustín binder and long-fillers from Brazil (Mata Fina), the Dominican (Piloto Cubano Seco and Piloto Cubano Ligero), and Nicaragua (Jalapa Valley). “The growing season in 2013 was one of the best I’ve ever seen,” said Ernest Gocaj, Director of Tobacco Procurement for General Cigar Co. "The crop was exceptional at harvest, which meant that we had to be obsessive when it came to monitoring the tobacco during the eight-week curing process. That’s how important curing is. Our hard work paid off because we ultimately brought the tobacco’s very best attributes to life.”
