Paying tribute to Nicaragua's famed poet, Rubén Darío.

Metapa is the latest from Nick Melillo and his company, Foundation Cigars, paying homage to the birthplace of famed poet Rubén Darío. (The city has since been renamed as Ciudad Darío in his honor.)

Wrapped in an Ecuadorian Sumatra leaf - a first for Foundation - each Metapa also consists of a Connecticut Broadleaf binder and Nicaraguan long-fillers. Rolled at Tabacalera Fernandez, it's offered in four soft-pressed vitolas. Melillo cites his love of Darío's poetry and desire to introduce a blend which centers around an Ecuadorian Sumatra leaf, and thus Metapa is the grand result. Metapa is derived from the Nahuatl word metl, which means “place of magueys (a type of agave plant).” The maguey plant has significant cultural and religious symbolism in Central American mythology and art. This was used often in  Darío's poems. The Metapa brand embodies the essence of Nicaraguan craftsmanship, celebrating the passion of the country’s cigar culture.
