Q & A: Country Of Origin Affects Flavor?

Q.
Does a cigar's country of origin affect the flavor of my cigars?

12/30/09 | by JD of Brooklyn, NY

A.
No. Although a tobacco's country of origin does affect the flavor of a cigar due to the unique nutrients that exist in the different soils of each country, a cigar's country of origin does not. Trust us, there is a difference. Many manufacturers create blends using tobaccos from different countries since the flavors of each are different, thus creating complex and interesting flavors. However, when these tobaccos are combined into a cigar, the origin of that cigar is the country in which it was produced, not the country in which the filler tobaccos or wrapper were grown. Therefore, you can have a Honduran cigar that solely consists of Dominican and Nicaraguan tobaccos, but is actually rolled and produced in Honduras.
