Plasencia’s El Año del Caballo (‘Year of the Horse’ in Spanish) continues Plasencia’s steady trot among the greatest family-owned cigar companies to ever exist - one that spans multiple generations and more than a century of cultivation and craftsmanship. Offered in a domineering 7 x 58 Gordo vitola, the cigar employs a Jalapa-grown Nicaraguan wrapper over a Nicaraguan binder and Honduran–Nicaraguan fillers, a blend designed to emulate the power and grace of a steed.
It incorporates a distinctive hand‑braided tobacco tail, crafted by a third roller specifically for this release, evidence of Plasencia’s attention to artisanal detail. The limited production of only 6,000 boxes of 10 cigars makes each piece a rare expression within the brand’s Lunar New Year series.
El Año del Caballo delivers an engaging profile. Expect oak, dark coffee, chocolate, toasted nuts, and touches of anise, cocoa, leather, and floral sweetness, with shifts in spice and richness as the cigar progresses. The dark, slightly mottled wrapper and the trio of red‑and‑gold bands enhance its visual appeal, while the construction remains consistently firm with excellent smoke production.
