Relic harks back to the days of flavorful, old-world cigars.

The term ‘Cuban-esque' gets thrown around quite often these days, but honestly, that wouldn't begin to do this one justice. Simply, yet aptly dubbed Relic, this affordable luxury of historic proportions is truly a trace of the past. Liken to a mysterious ancient artifact, a heavy, rustic wood box is enclosed by a worn and weathered box strip. The cigars are laid to rest and rotated in unison with unique, dual sided bands featuring an ancient gargoyle relic perched inside a stone window. But beyond its antique and somewhat menacing appearance lies a more important discovery…

Relic is a high-end offering from AJ Fernandez consisting of premium tobaccos that provide cigar enthusiasts an experience like no other. As you'd expect from AJ, this blend is full-flavored and full-bodied, yet its approachable balance sets it aside from the rest. A superb recipe including a Cuban-seed Habano wrapper grown in Esteli that has never before been released glistens on the outside. It is meticulously picked and sorted exclusively for the Relic brand based on its supreme quality and alluring, dark-brown hue. At its core, Relic boasts well-aged, Nicaraguan long-fillers for a full-bodied yet balanced delight that entices the palate with bold notes of cedar, spice, leather, and cream.

Yet another full bodied masterpiece, from the blending Tsar, AJ Fernandez! Pretty much a straightforward blend, featuring a proprietary Cuban seed habano wrapper leaf from Esteli, draped firmly over Nicaraguan long filler ligeros, surrounded by a spicy Ecuadorian habano binder. Time & again, he uses this method to deliver blend after blend of superior smokes, often for very reasonable price. Relic is about $5 or $6, depending on shape/size. I have already sourced it out at much less, like the Toro I am burning as I write this review. $2.50 invested, making it an excellent bargain. Instead of going through the myriad flavors & strengths this vitola offers, let me say it reminds me very much of Alec Bradley's American Sun Grown. They seem to share the same flavor profile, which is a good thing indeed! You can't go wrong with either one, if you are a typical fullhead like me & enjoy full bodied, full flavored & complex blends, that won't put you in the poorhouse. Both deserve 90 ratings for their pedigree, delicious taste & high quality standards.
The Relic Toro is on my short list of favorites. It starts with a lot of spice (no surprise there, its by AJF) but develops into a complex meld of flavors that include brown sugar, caramel, earth, and deep tobacco. Its excellent draw provides creamy, satisfying clouds of smoke. This cigar reminds me a lot of another favorite of mine, La Aroma De Cuba. Both bring me that "all's right with the world" feeling that keeps me coming back for more.
