Another powerhouse from Diesel, this time in a darker hue.Fans of the line all have one important thing in common—they like strong, bold cigars that are packed full of flavor. In short, Diesel fans don't mess around. They know what they want, and their palates are refined to the extreme. So if you've been searching for a guaranteed punch in the face, metaphorically speaking, then this brand has your name all over it.Following in the successful footsteps of Diesel Unlimited comes Diesel Unlimited Maduro. This exciting addition to the Diesel portfolio sports a luscious Broadleaf maduro wrapper, San Andres binder, and flavorful long-fillers from Nicaragua and Honduras. The result is an ultra-balanced concoction of rich, compelling flavors including cocoa, coffee, leather, and spice. You'll be drawn in to the myriad of aromas. Experience instant gratification with that signature full-bodied strength Diesel fans have come to expect.
Recently I have become a corona smoker. I used to light up a rothchilde or robusto more often than any other shape. When Diesel became available in a corona/lancero size, I immediately bought 30 in the Diesel Corona Tin package. It quickly became my new favorite. And started my trend toward identifying & obtaining as many of my old favorites, in the new corona shape. Hair of the Dog coronas were next. Love them too! Now, it's Diesel Unlimited Maduro in the tidy little (5" X 42) form. Faced with paying a King's ransom to obtain a box of these lovely gems, I stumbled onto Cigar.com & a savings of $10.00 over the competitor's regular price. Still, they are expensive at $3.50/stick. But I am out of HODT coronas & down to my last 5 Diesel coronas. Time to do something. So I am ordering up a box of 20. If they are half as good as the Diesel coronas, then I will be sittin' in tall cotton! Look for my honest review, in the near future. For now, know that AJ must love us, since he continues to bring us fabulous cigars, often at very reasonable cost. If I was pressed into having to choose just one blend, in just one size, to smoke exclusively, that blend & size would be Diesel Corona at (5" X 42). Or maybe, La Herencia Cubana Core Lancero at (6.5" X 44). Or Punch London Club EMS at (4.2" X 40), or Alec Bradley American Sun Grown at (5.5" X 42). Corona encompasses a lot of great choices actually, with a wide variety of lengths & ring gauges to choose from. Seriously, the Diesel Corona started it all with me & has no peers, IMHO. Given the pedigree of Unlimited, I have to assume it will be equally impressive.
AJ Fernandez's newest concoction for the uber lovable Diesel line of fantastic cigars is Unlimited Maduro. All I can say is, WOW! What's not to love about Diesel? Blend after wonderful blend, all reasonably priced. Some of the best full bodied/full flavored maduro & habano wrapped vitolas anywhere, at any price! Let's get to the meat of this review. A gordo robusto, fit for a King, at (5.5" X 54). Price-Whee-owlll! 4 clams & change is the MSRP! I get them for half that in specials & samplers. 14pts.
Flavor - Not excessively full bodied or full flavored, but damn full bodied & full flavored! Done just right. It will rip your head off & blow smoke into the pulsating cavity, if you aren't prepared. Jump up after half an hour toking on one of these & you may go into a tailspin! The balance is amazing! Less complex than Tempus Maduro, it takes a rocky road from lighting to nub, alternating periods of intense spice & peppery nuances, to mellow, smooth flowing clouds of oaky, woody, earthy tones, with a slight vanilla sweetness that is hard to describe. What kind of genius marries a broadleaf maduro wrapper, with a Mexican San Andres binder, over Nic & Hon ligeros? The good kind! 13pts.
Construction - Fat, heavy, firm & beautiful. Whether you pay 4 bucks or 10 bucks for an AJ, it will always be spot on. 14pts.
Burn - I've smoked hundreds of cigars from Tabacalera Fernandez with little or no problem. Even the 2nds burn straight. 14pts.
Overall - A worthy addition to what may be the preeminent line of heavy duty spleefs being manufactured today. You absolutely cannot go wrong with a Diesel cigar, unless you are a mild head. If so, hurry back to the Dominican, where the tobacco is mild! 13pts.
Personal Obs. - I will be keeping these on hand at all times. Smoking my last one as I write this review, I am looking for the AJ Fernandez Full Bodied Sampler or a box of the rothchildes, so I can order more. 13pts.
Recommended to fullheads & bargain shoppers alike. Rating 91pts.
