New CAO emerges... from the ground!
CAO’s Arcana series highlights some of the most unusual, and uniquely fermented tobaccos in the industry. From rustic andullo tobaccos to extensively aged wrapper leaves, the goal of Arcana is to show enthusiasts techniques, and the flavors that arise from them, that they may not learn about on their own. This time around, CAO has pulled their newest blend straight from the Earth, introducing Firewalker.
The key to Firewalker is a process known as chincagre, a fermentation process used primarily by tobacco farmers in western Nicaragua. This process sees Firewalker’s Nicaraguan filler tobaccos buried into the volcanic soils of the Mastepe region for two months. Doing so is said to provide an unhindered location for the tobacco to ferment naturally, emphasizing the sweet and aromatic qualities. Once they have fermented, they are sent to the factory, where they ferment for nine more months.
Once the fermentation process is complete, the unique long-fillers are tucked away underneath a Nicaraguan binder, and an Ecuador Havana wrapper. Sweet, luxurious notes of leather, cocoa, coffee, and spices are abundant in Firewalker, in combination with the impressive construction standards we have come to appreciate from CAO.
