Spotlight Brand: Diesel Rage

April 19, 2015 |

Gear up for another potent blend from Diesel.

From Wicked to Delirium, Diesel mastermind and blender AJ Fernandez continues to release cigars that earn their way to the upper tier of the premium cigar world. This is certainly no easy feat being that the Diesel core lines are already one of the top-selling full-bodied cigars around. Yes Diesel cigars are known for their strength, but they’re also known for being incredibly well-made with a consistent burn and draw. This is why seasoned cigar enthusiasts have made Diesel their go-to brand for years.

Diesel Rage is the latest in a string of successful releases over the past few years and is a must try for any fan. AJ Fernandez has created yet another outstanding premium handmade using a dark and oily, Ecuadorian Habano Sun Grown Oscuro wrapper and a stellar concoction of Cuban-seed long-fillers from his farms in Nicaragua. Diesel Rage boils over with complexity and offers rich notes of cedar and spice. Medium to full-bodied, the onslaught of flavor and aroma is not overbearing, and is rounded out by a unique creamy finish that is all so rare in fuller-bodied blends. The cigar's performance both in construction and flavor is yet another testament to AJ's persistence on quality and the Diesel brands high stature within the cigar community.

Q & A: Too Much Humidity?

Q.
My cigars are too moist. How can I remove humidity from my humidor?

4/15/15 | by TD of Reading, PA

A.
If you find your humidor actually tends to hold too much humidity, the simplest method for dropping the humidity is to leave the lid open for as little as five minutes to as long as an hour. This will only be a permanent fix if you find this is a one time occurrence. If you live in an area with naturally high humidity, you'll find yourself constantly leaving your lid open if you experience this problem regularly. In that case, we recommend getting a small shot glass or maybe even a cocktail glass (depending on the size of your humidor) and filling it with white rice. We bet you've gone to a local pizzeria and noticed there's rice in the salt shaker...same concept. The rice will naturally absorb all the extra humidity. Simple, easy, and inexpensive.

Alex Great Everyday Option
Maybe it’s just me but I’m really into this packaging. The crisp, clean design and the elegant logo caught my eye right away amongst a sea of new products in our conference room. But great packaging usually doesn’t translate into a good cigar. The blend is combination of hand-selected Nicaraguan Cuban-seed long-fillers. It’s then finished with a San Andres wrapper that is extremely smooth to the touch and loaded with natural oils. Construction-wise you can’t really ask for more.

Upon lighting the cigar, it hit my palate with a blast of spice. Not the best start but serviceable. As it progresses, that spice subsides into a medium-bodied profile with earthy and oaky notes. Those notes remain prevalent throughout most of the smoke but I ended up getting subtle hints of spice towards the end of the cigar. While I didn’t have glass of bourbon on hand, I suspect it would have improved the overall experience. Overall, not the best blend I’ve ever had but for the price I’ll happily pick up a box and use them as an everyday option throughout the summer.
