This afternoon was a Mi Dominicana robusto, pretty decent cigar with one of the whitest ashes I've seen for a while. Later, in the evening, was an Oliva Serie V Maduro 2009. At 6x54 I expected the draw to open up a bit more, which it did with the right cut, than the previous release, I also expected a more mellow strength and richer flavors, which I feel it delivered on. Now that's not to say this wasn't strong, actually right off the bat it seemed stronger, the key difference being that the 2008 kept building in strength and turned into a real powerhouse in the final third, the 2009 was more consistent in strength starting strong and gaining a little throughout. I also felt the flavors of the blend and the maduro wrapper were more pronounced in this one, lending a greater complexity and depth of flavor. My one gripe, and it's a big one, is that the damn wrapper would not burn, it kept tunneling regardless of how fast or slow I smoked, the burn line had to be remade 5-6 times throughout the cigar. All in all I think it is better than the previous release, the flavors seem richer and deeper, the strength is more tempered and I got a much better draw than I've had with the '08.

I had one of my 5 Vegas Cask Stength II that I got on the DD. Before I say what I thought of the cigar, I have to note that C.com got me these cigars in 2 days. Ordered on Monday afternoon and got them Wednesday afternoon. Again, C.com is super fast on shipping.

I enjoyed the cigar, though I think I was a little too anxious to try it. It's the first one I've had and I'm sure it'll be fantastic with a little rest and age on it.
just a few weeks make a good difference
I'm sure it will. I like the new Santa Squirrel by the way. Hey, if you do end up getting a box of Gran Habano 3 Siglos, how would care for a trade? I'd like to try one of those.
I got 1/2 a box but shoot me a pm

Nice comparisons there. I would agree with you on that review. Though I didn't have any tunneling issues. glad you were able to get them too!

Had a Gurhka Signature 101 Maduro and it was awful, nothing but burn issues from the very beginning. I had to puff 4-5 consecutive times just to get any smoke. I was constantly relighting and touching it up. Then about 1/4 of the way into it, the stick just went out. I was fed up by this time so I chucked it. Then I went with a solid 5 Vegas Cask.
not a fan of the 101 myself.

I'm really hoping that tunneling issue was a fluke. Time will tell that tale, though I'd lean towards it being a fluke.

Sitting out on my patio. It's about 38 degrees but I'm wrapped in an electric blanket. Decided to revisit my comments made on the 101 forum about not enjoying scotch and cigars together. The Padilla Habano Toro I'm enjoying right now mixed with the Wasmund's Single Malt is making me eat my words. First Padilla Habano I've ever had and man am I enjoying it. Wonderful notes of cream and spice right from the get go and it just keeps getting better. I wasn't expecting the cigar to be as strong as it turned out to be, but it's knocking my socks off!

I was so pissed when I threw that one into the fire. It was my first and last 101!!! I was so looking forward to this maduro and it just crapped out on me. I have to admit that it was a bit windy outside, but considering that the 5 Vegas Cask burned PERFECTLY immediately following tells me that the wind had very little say in how the Gurhka perfomed. 24 hours later and I'm still miffed about the whole thing.

Tonight, I had my first 5 Vegas Miami...LOVED it!!! So strong yet so soft and supple. I burned that thing till I burned my tongue from the cherry!! I didn't want it to end. I have never, I repeat NEVER, had a 5 Vegas that was short of enjoyable and damm near perfect!! I know other people who can't say the same, but I personally have not had a problem!! Maybe I should just resign to become an exclusvie 5 Vegas smoker!! Nah...too many other good cigars out there. Including the Diesels that are on the way from last weeks killer Daily Deal. Now if only Bourbons and Scotch's would have daily deals, I'd be in heaven!!

Montecriston churchill. Today we were blessed with beautiful weather in the Northeast and I was able to sit out side for a couple of hours and enjoy one of my favorite smokes.

nothing for me in about three weeks! I had some crazy humidity issues but everything is resolved now. I will give one of them a try on Friday most likely. Hopefully everything is back to normal by then.
    GO 'CUSE!!!

Wow hope everything is smoking okay by then!

Had a new Padilla Cazadores, and these are good smokes! I'm thinking these will be smoking awesome in a couple months and even better after 6 months or so! Wasn't able to nub it, got too hot and bitter even after taking my time, but these are a winner if you can find them on a daily deal.

    Peace, Nick

Smoked two last night. I went out for this girls birthday in Morristown, NJ. The place is called the Famished Frog. I'm not a big city type bar person but this place has a new addition called the side bar which is a cigar smoking lounge. So, after hanging in the bar for about 20 minutes I had enough (The band was loud and I hate bars where everyone is bumping into eachother cause it's too packed) and went to the side bar with my friend! Started with a Gurkha Grand Age Churchill which was ok. It was getting bitter near the last 2 1/2 inches and purging helped only so much (To bad I have like 50 of them left). Then moved to a Decade Toro which I was not digging. The first Decade I ever had was a Torpedo and I really enjoyed it but since then I have not enjoyed any Decade nearly as much as the first. This one I don't know just didn't do it for me. I brought a Fuente 8-5-8 with me but I gave it to someone. Oh well.

Today I had a La Gloria Cubana Gloria Extra. This is my friends everyday smoke and he buys them non stop! He loves them. This one was juts ok. When I cut it, it started to unravel. About the half way mark it good good but quickly went downhill. Oh well, I'll make up for it soon.

Made use of what was probably the last warm day of the year by smoking a Sancho Panza maduro...damn fine cigar for such a small price.

Smoked a Diesel earlier, and for only having like three days of rest, it was awesome. I can't wait to see how these are in a few weeks.
