Wheelie, much better than the cx or mx 2. I enjoyed it more anyway. Rob, yeah, I have done a lot of gurkkha's, but hey, going to add some more... lol Coming up is an evil and and assassin.

Gurkha Archive (conni wrapper, Nicaraguan filler, and Cameroon binder)

This cigar is a box pressed cigar (Gurkha's 20th Anniversary) that comes in a huge box, 92 cigars in total. One thing that gurkha does at times is bring out cigar in huge boxes, which I really do not understand. Who wants 92 cigars? I mean I love certain cigars but 92 of them? yeah okay I could see maybe getting that many for a select few but gurkha is known for such numbers though pushing a hundred is a bit much. At around 700 bucks for this box and with the 9.75 a stick, a box sounds cheap but really????.....
Pre-Light had a good aroma, sort of woody. After few puffs I got a lot of wood and spice, peppery almost. While holding the smoke in my mouth I picked up a lot of wood and subtle spice, but I picked up a lot of pepper through the nose. This cigar started out strong, then mellowed a bit near the end, though stayed with a pepper, wood, maybe ceder taste. There wasn't a lot of complexity to the smoke, not a lot of flavors I would jump up for. The price for what I paid for this cigar was WAY to much. Maybe at 2 bucks or something, if that but I wasn't impressed. If this is a cigar brought out for the 20th anniversary if I wouldn't have had many gurkha's under my belt I would probably say this manufacturer sucks.... lol. If you like woody cigars, strong cigars look somewhere else, believe me. Yeah I'm sure people could like this cigar but for the price there a LOT of others out there that are better. Anyway, this will be under the do not like list from Gurkha.

Olivia V maduro was the hot item last year and with all of us wondering if it would come back, we finally got word and some places have got some shipments. First of all it's a bit shorter than last years, and has some changes in the blend.

First of all I want to say I really enjoyed the 08 blend and have come to enjoy the regular line. The pre light smell of the cigar is a lot like the 08, at least from what I remember. The construction is great with no imperfections found. After cutting and toasting the first few puffs are creamy, smooth and a bit chocolaty. The draw is a bit tight, and after some adjusting it got looser which helped the burn fix itself. It's been a while since I had an 08 so I really can't tell the differences between the years but let me just say that if you missed out on the 08's or have a few, the 09's are just as good if not better (though like I said can't really tell if it is better). Puff after puff the flavors gave off some nut, chocolate, spice, pepper, wood, cream, and some other light flavors. The pepper took a front seat near the mid point but sat back quickly. The smoothness of this cigar is fantastic, never harsh or really hot. I was able to almost nub it without being burned, so those of you who like cooler cigars will be happy. The flavors stayed consistent all the way through, and so did the smoothness. I wouldn't call this cigar too complex, though that's just me. The strength of the cigar seemed to grow more past the mid point, but it wasn't knock your socks off strong, just a subtle build of it. I really enjoyed the flavors and was impressed at how smooth it stayed till the end. Bottom line, pick a few up.

Ashton in my opinion has some of the best cigars, and here is their so-called flagship an hardest to find/get cigar (spendy too).
This would be my third ESG I've had and the last I have in stock. I have to say, I love the look of the cigar, very well done with a flawless wrapper and construction. The Label is one of the best if not my favorite from any line out there. These cigars are really expensive, like 17-30 dollars depending on where you find them. I think I got this guy for like 17.25 or something.... I decided to smoke this as I found these and the 21 and 22's in boxes and wanted to know if they were worth buying as a box, as I recalled them to be an "okay" cigar. I picked all three up last year around october or something so this one has been sitting for over a year or one could say a solid year at the bottom of my big humi.
Pre-Light this stick had some ceder, and tobacco smells coming from it. After toasting and then puffing a few times I picked up some wood, ceder, spice, and some coffee like flavors. Nothing that was telling me, hey, this is worth the money. Moving onto the 1/2 way mark I picked up some changes, the pepper/woody tastes moved back a bit and more sweetness/coffee flavors moved in but the wrapper started to crack!

This was certainly a first for me of any of the Ashton's I've had and even more so, I can't recall it ever happening to me especially when I've had a cigar in my humi for a long period of time. I mean sometimes something like this happens near the foot or something but never in the middle of a cigar. Moving on, the flavors stayed sweet with some spice/pepper to them. Wood and coffee stayed present. The wrapper continued to split and didn't get better so I let it burn out. Bottom line, I will not buy a box, I will not pay these prices for these cigars again, and I really would like to say don't waste YOUR money on these cigars. Yeah they look nice, have a great label, and the rarity of the cigar is always nice but for the price you can get many, many other cigars that have more complexity and offer more flavor. I'll stick to the VSG.
