The phrase “the best of the best” is the only way you can describe the Avo XO series.
Avo Uvezian, famed jazz musician and composer is truly a perfectionist, and his cigars are no exception. Blended and produced under the watchful eye of Hendrik Kelner, this Tabadom made cigar is rolled with the most discriminating palate in mind. Avo XO is the most premium blend in the entire Avo line.
The Avo XO features a medium-bodied aroma that is dry and subtle, yet very complex. Flavors of wood and nuts are tasted on the palate and the finish is medium and spicy. This unique cigar captures its complexity from its five country blend. Using only the best rollers in the Dominican Republic and the best tobaccos the world has to offer, the Avo XO is a pleasure. This cigar is best enjoyed later in the day and in the company of food, as good pairings bring out more of the cigars subtleties.
Make an occasion to smoke one of these. Beyond brilliant.

I've heard it said that when one opens a box of real Cuban cigars, the aroma is of sweet hay and straw. I don't know if that's true; I've only bought singles while traveling, and even then a percentage of them were surely fakes.
I took my guillotine and nipped the endoff the Preludio lancer and drew a breath of air through the unlit cigar. There it was...that telltale scent of sweet hay and morning air blowing over clean wheat straw.
Then I lit it. Soft...so soft. Medium bodied smoke that carried a subtle, sweet pecan and hazelnut flavor. The woodiness was not tannic. Nothing overtly bitter or "oak-like" about it. Cedar? Not quite. Hickory? Closer.
Construction is beautiful. The wrapper feels...well, plush under the fingerpads. Velvet comes to mind. The burn was absolutely even and slow. For slowly it would have burned, had I not tried to nurse on it as a hungry newborn.
There is nothing negative to be said at this cigar. Yes, it is luxury priced. Yes, it might be a special occasion smoke for some.
So? Make up an occasion and smoke one of these, please. You'll thank me and perhaps, name your first-born after me.
AVO XO was one of the first premium cigars I ever had. They began selling in New York in 1988 following a relationship between master cigar maker Hendrik Kelner in the Dominican Republic and the musician and cigar aficionado, Avo Uvezian. A smooth and seamless Connecticut wrapper is rolled flawlessly around a complex, five country long filler blend. The strength is on the lighter side of medium the cigar offers smooth, earthy flavors mixed with hints of cedar and toasted nuts. A slight spice is noticed on the finish occasionally and a subtle floral aroma fills the air. While the ash is a bit weak and flaky at times, the burn is always even and the draw is effortless. AVO XO is a very balanced, smooth Dominican blend with complex flavors and a delightful aromatic quality. I enjoy these as a morning or mid-day indulgence when I’m looking for something with a ton of flavor without all the strength.
